Which retro machines can I play music on?

REWIND draws 30 machines, from 1968–2005. Every machine plays the same library, so you can switch from a cassette to a turntable and the song keeps going.

Which retro machines can I play music on?

How do the mechanics work?

Every machine reacts to your fingers. Swipe a cassette to wind it forward or back. Put a finger on a CD or a record and scratch. Drag a finger along an MP3 player to scrub through a song.

Pause does a real tape stop, where the pitch slides down before the sound ends. Buttons press down with a click and a haptic tap, and you can switch both off. Read the full rundown on tape mechanics.

What does the analog sound do?

One switch turns on a warm analog chain, computed live on your iPhone. Sliders set tape saturation, wobble (wow and flutter), hiss and vinyl crackle. Turn them up for a worn mixtape or leave them low for a gentle glow. Machine sound gives each machine its own warm profile automatically, and lo-fi radio narrows the sound like an old receiver. Both are free.

A 5-band equalizer sits next to it at 60 Hz, 250 Hz, 1 kHz, 3.5 kHz and 12 kHz, with presets named Flat, Warm, Bass, Vocal and Air. See analog sound and the equalizer. With REWIND PRO you also get Slowed + Reverb, Sped up, reverb depth and 8D audio, plus up to +9 dB of volume boost with a limiter.

Which animated backgrounds does REWIND have?

There are 17 backgrounds that move with the music: pulse, bars, wave, VU meters, an oscilloscope, aurora, a synthwave horizon, a lava lamp and more. Tap the chip to cycle through them, or long-press it to open the full list.

How does the library work offline?

Import a whole folder or single tracks from the Files app. REWIND copies them into the app, so playback never needs a network. It reads tags and cover art, and it supports MP3, AAC/M4A, ALAC, WAV, AIFF, FLAC and CAF. See the formats hub.

You get search, favorites, shuffle, repeat, lock screen and Control Center controls, background playback, a sleep timer and a night light. Build mixtapes with a label you write by hand. The whole offline music player story is on one page.

What does REWIND know about me?

Nothing. The App Store privacy label reads Data Not Collected. Your files stay on the phone, and there is no account, ad or analytics. Even the clicks and motor noises are synthesized on the device. Read the privacy policy.

Which languages does the app speak?

The interface comes in 13 languages: English, Russian, German, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Traditional Chinese, Dutch, Turkish and Polish. REWIND follows your phone language and you can change it in Settings.

What is free and what is PRO?

The download is free. Free forever: 8 machines, 7 backgrounds, analog sound, machine sound, lo-fi radio and the equalizer, one mixtape, import and lock screen controls. PRO includes every machine and background, Slowed + Reverb, Sped up, reverb depth, 8D audio, volume boost and unlimited mixtapes.

Frequently asked questions

Is REWIND free?

Yes, the download is free and includes 8 machines, 7 backgrounds, analog sound, machine sound, lo-fi radio, the equalizer and one mixtape. REWIND PRO is an optional in-app purchase for everything else.

Does REWIND work without internet?

Yes. Songs are copied into the app, so playback, machines and sound effects all work offline. The internet is only used to download the app and to load prices.

Can I play Apple Music or Spotify songs in REWIND?

No. Streaming tracks are DRM-protected and cannot be imported. Files you own work, such as DRM-free purchases, Bandcamp downloads and your own CD rips.

Which audio formats does REWIND support?

MP3, AAC/M4A, ALAC, WAV, AIFF, FLAC and CAF. OGG, Opus, DSD, APE and WMA are not supported.

Does REWIND collect any data?

No. The App Store privacy label says Data Not Collected. There is no account, advertising or analytics, and your files stay on your iPhone.

Is there an iPad, Mac or Android version?

No. REWIND is made for iPhone only and runs on iOS 16.4 or later.
