REWIND decodes your file, runs it through a 5-band equalizer and an optional analog chain, then adds reverb, 8D audio and volume boost with a limiter if you switch them on, and sends it to the iPhone output. All processing runs on the device in real time, with no network.

What is the audio chain?
The path from file to speaker runs in this order.
- Decode: MP3, AAC/M4A, ALAC, WAV, AIFF, FLAC or CAF is decoded.
- Playback speed: Slowed plays 15% slower with lower pitch, Sped up plays 20% faster with higher pitch (both PRO, never together).
- Equalizer: 5 bands at 60 Hz, 250 Hz, 1 kHz, 3.5 kHz and 12 kHz.
- Tape drive: tape saturation, wobble (wow and flutter), hiss and vinyl crackle, when analog sound or machine sound is on.
- Tone: the machine's own tone, plus the lo-fi radio filter (about 420 Hz to 3.2 kHz) when switched on (free).
- Lo-fi high-pass: trims the low end for the radio sound.
- Dry and reverb mix: reverb depth from off through room and hall to cathedral (PRO). Slowed turns it on at medium if it was off.
- 8D panner: the sound circles between the ears about every 8 seconds (PRO).
- Boost and limiter: up to +9 dB with a limiter (PRO).
- Output: iPhone speaker, wired or Bluetooth headphones.

REWIND is not a bit-perfect or hi-res player.

What does it need?
An iPhone running iOS 16.4 or later. There is no iPad, Mac, Android, Watch or widget version.
What about the network?
Playback needs none. The internet is used to download the app from the App Store and to load prices. Mechanical sounds such as clicks, tape stop and motor are synthesized on the device.
What data does it collect?
None. The App Store privacy label is Data Not Collected. There is no account, advertising or analytics. See the privacy policy.
