The ’89 S30: a vinyl-style disc with a bold red label
The S30 is a 1989 portable CD player in REWIND PRO, shown opened up. A densely populated brown-gold board of capacitors, chips and traces surrounds a black mechanism block at lower left. The disc looks like a black record with a bright red label or your track’s cover art.

What did an early portable CD player look like?
The first portable CD players, which arrived in the mid-1980s, were bulky, built around a motor, a laser and a large battery pack. The anti-skip memory that made later models walkable did not exist yet, so many owners carried them with both hands. Still, the clear sound sold them.
What is drawn on the S30?
An old-school board in brown and gold fills the plate, packed with capacitors, chips, resistors and traces. A black block holds the mechanism at lower left. The disc is drawn like a black record with a large bright red center label, which becomes the cover of the current track when your file has art.
The disc turns while playing, and the laser carriage slides across it.
- Red label, or your cover art
- Dense board of tiny components

- Year ’89 printed on the plate
Which sound settings suit the S30?
Clarity is the point of a CD, so keep wobble off and hiss off. Add a small amount of saturation only if a track sounds harsh. The equalizer Flat preset is honest, Warm tames bright pop. Pair it with the bars background for a retro hi-fi feel.
Is the 1989 CD Player free or PRO?
The S30 is a bright red option in the PRO disc family. It belongs to REWIND PRO: weekly $2.99, yearly $19.99 with a 3-day free trial, or lifetime $24.99 once. Without PRO you still get 8 machines, plus analog sound and the equalizer on all of them.
