A sleep timer with five lengths

REWIND's sleep timer stops playback after 15, 30, 45, 60 or 90 minutes, so you can fall asleep to your own music without leaving it running all night. It works fully offline, with the screen locked, and pairs well with the night light mode.

A sleep timer with five lengths

How does the sleep timer work?

Pick a length and the countdown starts. When it ends, playback stops. It uses the same engine as the rest of the app, so it works in airplane mode and with the screen locked.

You can change your mind: starting a new timer replaces the old one, and you can resume playback afterward from the lock screen or the app.

  1. Start a song, a folder or a mixtape.
  2. Open the sleep timer.
  3. Choose 15, 30, 45, 60 or 90 minutes.
  4. Lock the phone and listen.

Which length should I pick?

It depends on how fast you fall asleep, and on the music. Short options suit a quick wind-down. Longer ones suit a full album.

LengthGood for
15 minA quick wind-down, one or two songs
30 minA short mixtape side
45 minA full cassette side
60 minA longer album
90 minA full evening, a double-sided tape

What should I play?

Slow, steady music with little sudden loudness works best. Try a mixtape built for the purpose, with the equalizer on Warm to soften the top end.

Keep volume low. The volume boost in PRO is for quiet recordings in noisy places, not for bedtime.

Albums with a steady dynamic range beat playlists that jump between quiet ballads and loud choruses. If a song wakes you up, it did not belong on the tape.

Sleep timer and night light together

The sleep timer controls the audio; the night light controls the screen. Together they let you keep a glowing retro machine by the bed with everything else dimmed, then let the music stop on its own.

Is it free?

Yes. The sleep timer is not a PRO feature. See pricing for what PRO adds.

Setting a tape side as a timer

Before CDs and phones, a cassette side was a sleep timer: on many players the tape ended, the deck clicked off and the room went quiet. REWIND keeps that habit. A 45-minute timer matches one side of a C90 tape, and 90 minutes matches the whole tape. Choose by feel.

Tips for a better night

Lower the volume before you start, since a song that is comfortable at 10 pm can be loud at 1 am if the timer outlasts you. Set the screen to dim with the night light or let the phone lock. Charge it if you plan to use the screen overnight.

If you like falling asleep to the same record every night, put it in a mixtape and start that tape. The timer will end it at the length you chose.

If playback does not stop where you expect, check which of the five lengths you picked. Starting a new timer replaces the previous one. If you need playback to continue after it ends, start it again from the lock screen using the lock screen controls.
