What does Flacbox do better?
Flacbox offers far more under the hood. A DSP chain (filters, shelving, soft-clip saturation, bit crusher, ring modulator, stereo width), crossfeed for headphones, a built-in tag editor, and cloud, media server or NAS streaming are all in its listing, and its site names Last.fm scrobbling. It also lists playback speed adjustment without changing pitch, which REWIND does not offer, and it plays DSD and Ogg files that REWIND cannot open.
If you collect hi-res albums or keep a library on a NAS, it is the more capable tool. REWIND does not advertise hi-res or bit-perfect output.
What does REWIND do better?
REWIND gives each song a body. A 1992 cassette mechanism winds when you swipe it, a CD player spins under your finger, and the pitch slides down when you pause. There are 30 machines in the catalog, 8 of them free, and the sounds of the mechanics are synthesized on the device.
The sound tools are simpler and more playful: analog sound sliders, a 5-band equalizer with Flat, Warm, Bass, Vocal and Air presets, and slowed + reverb in one switch. There is no cloud sign-in to configure and no data is collected. A lifetime PRO purchase is $24.99, against $69.99 for Flacbox Premium lifetime, though the two unlock different features.
